Aims & Objectives

Liverpool Easter 1916 Commemoration Committee.

The aim of the committee will be:

To commemorate the Liverpool men and women of the Irish Volunteers, Cumann na mBan and Irish Citizen Army who participated in the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin.

Agreed Objectives:

Establish the identity and life history of all participants from Liverpool to include photos, identifying living relatives, place of burial.

Establish level of participation during the Easter Rising including whereabouts and actions undertaken.

Establish Liverpool Volunteer casualties during Easter week.

Establish whereabouts following surrender e.g Frongoch, English prisons etc.

Educationals/seminars to educate about Liverpool Volunteers and Easter 1916 in general.

Consider fitting permanent memorial to the Liverpool Volunteers of Easter 1916.

Consider publications to commemorate and raise awareness of Liverpool and Easter 1916.

Work in partnership with Governmental, community and academic institutions to further the aims of the committee.

Contribute to 100th anniversary commemorative events in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

    My grandfather was Joseph Duffy. A member of the Liverpool contingent who as part of the Kimmage Garrison fought in the Easter Rising, based in the GPO. .
    I have some memorabilia including all 4 military medals. And can offer some information. We have no photos from the actual period and would really appreciate if you had any.
